Datto Purchases Cloud-Based Backup Solution Known as Backupify

Founded in 2007, Connecticut-based Datto has long been considered one of the leaders in backup and disaster recovery (BDR). Unwilling to give up their share of the spotlight to its bigger competitors, Datto recently announced the acquisition of Backupify, a program that facilitates cloud-to-cloud data backup and disaster recovery.

The primary purpose of the acquisition, according to representatives with Datto, is to offer instantaneous access to data recovery and protection while simultaneously bolstering customer service with a new operational model, thereby establishing a "Total Data Protection Platform" across their entire network. Now serving its customers 365 days a year, seven days a week and 24 hours a day, the customer service model is proof their dedication to their clientele.

Datto's own CEO, Austin McChord, spoke enthusiastically about the recent acquisition in one of his latest blog posts, where he was quoted as saying: "I am incredibly proud to welcome Backupify into the Datto family. This acquisition of the market leader in SaaS backup is an important step in our vision to protect business data no matter where it lives. Adding Backupify's technology is an important step in building a true total data protection platform."

As his blog post continued, McChord also explained how the acquisition is mutually beneficially. He went on to say: "Backupify provides must-have solutions for companies entrusting their data to SaaS applications, and our team will help complete the vision of creating a Total Data Protection Platform that extends across a company's entire digital ecosystem, as well as expand to new global markets, including Europe, Asia and Latin America."

Essentially, leaders with Datto are hoping to reign in nearly three quintillion bytes of data that is generated on a daily basis in the 21st century, despite the fact that enterprise data is commonly spread out amongst on-premises, off-site and cloud storage. Considering the fact that they already provide protection over more than 100 petabytes of data, as well as their new acquisition of Backupify, it's safe to say that they are on the right track.

What Is Backupify?

Backupify, which is currently touted as the largest automated data protection solution available on the market, was originally founded in Louisville, KY in 2008. Formerly known as Lifestream Backup and now headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, their software solutions are used amongst some of the most popular online brands, including Google Apps, Salesforce, Facebook, Twitter and more. Backupify will retain its original moniker under the new acquisition, but it will be integrated into the Datto family of products.
